I thought that by adding Maggies story it would give you a better understanding of why my husband and I became breeders. Being breeders is a dedication of love to our beloved baby girl Maggie, although we miss Maggie we are dedicated to breeding these dogs properly so that no one has to live through the horror of losing a pet the way we did Maggie.
It all started 3 years ago, my husband and I were visiting out of town and decided to stop into the pet store, we looked around the store and low behold we saw a puppy in the window of one of the cages, we new that this was no ordinary puppy she was beautiful, so I asked the girl working if I could see her, the girl went into the back to get her and people started to crowd around outside the window, all of the sudden a little streak of brown came running around the corner and jumped into my arms although there were many other people standing around she chose to come to me, well from that moment on Maggie was mine we paid for her and told them we would be back the next day to get her, even though my husband and I knew that buying a puppy from a pet store wasn’t the best choice we knew she was meant for us.
We went back to the pet store the next day to get our little girl and start our 3 hour journey home, we got home and showed off our new baby to the family and friends, everyone fell in love with her just as we had, later that evening Maggie started vomiting and had diarrhea. I called the vets office to see if I could give her something to help the vomiting and diarrhea and they advised me to hold her food for 24 hours which we did. During the night we knew that something wasn’t right because the vomiting was getting worse and the diarrhea was changing color our poor girl was very sick. The next morning we brought her to the vet’s office and waited for the office to open. The vet took her in right away and told us he would call as soon as he knew anything. At approximately 9:00 am that morning we got the dreaded call Maggie had a life threatening disease called “ParvoVirus” a very deadly disease for puppies. One week to the day that we got our little girl she passed away, we were heart broken and puppy less and to make matters worse the pet store didn’t want to refund our money because we didn’t bring her to them when we found out she was sick. My husband and I were devastated, eventually we got a hold of the owner of the pet store and he decided to give our money back but it still didn't help our hearts.
My husband and I decided that in order to help prevent this from happening to some one else we would become breeders and share this information with other people so that they might benefit from our experience. We purchased one female and the breeding rights from a wonderful lady in Martin River named Diane Dougall, we named her Katie Mags after our beloved Maggie and then we just kept adding to our breed program, now we are up to 5 breeding dogs and 2 pets our life is hectic but fulfilling. We still miss our Maggie but I cant help but wonder if that was Gods purpose in giving us Maggie. They say everything happens for a reason and I think Maggie was the reason for us being breeders even though our time together was brief. I believe we captured the dachshund spirit almost immediately, you can't help but love these little bundles because they capture your heart in seconds. “We love you Maggie.”
